The Quality Control System of Keyboard Factories: How HengCang Technology Ensures "Superior Quality"?

Facing consumers’ high demands for keyboard feel, durability, and stability, as well as brands’ strict standards for OEM products, these four simple words are supported by a rigorous, systematic factory quality control system honed over more than 20 years of industry experience. Truly effective quality control does not rely on a last-minute inspection before shipment, but rather permeates every key link—from supplier selection and raw material warehousing, to production processes and finished product testing, and finally to shipment and after-sales feedback—forming a comprehensive closed-loop management system with no blind spots.

First, the foundation of quality control lies at the source: strict screening and in-depth management of the supply chain. HengCang Technology never views the supply chain as a mere "procurement channel," but rather regards core suppliers as long-term partners, establishing a three-in-one management model of "access review + dynamic evaluation + joint optimization." During the supplier access phase, comprehensive qualification audits are conducted on suppliers of core materials such as switches, keycaps, PCBs, and casing raw materials, including production qualification certifications, quality management system certifications (e.g., ISO9001), past supply quality records, and even on-site inspections of their production environments and quality control processes. During cooperation, each batch of incoming materials undergoes professional inspection by the IQC (Incoming Quality Control) department: verifying the consistency of material models, specifications with the BOM (Bill of Materials), and identifying defective products through visual inspections, dimensional measurements, and performance spot checks. For example, the actuation force error of switches must be controlled within ±5g, and the wall thickness uniformity deviation of keycaps shall not exceed 0.1mm. Unqualified incoming materials are immediately labeled with red tags for isolation, registered and filed, and suppliers are required to rectify the issue. Meanwhile, backup supplier resources are activated to ensure production is not disrupted, eliminating the possibility of "producing high-quality products with inferior materials" from the source.

Second, the core of quality control lies in the process: standardized and refined control of the entire production process. Without rules, there can be no order. HengCang Technology has formulated detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for every link of keyboard production—precise to millimeters and seconds—and ensures every operator strictly implements them through pre-job training, on-site supervision, and regular assessments. On the keyboard assembly line, from core component processing to finished product formation, nearly 50 processes are involved, including switch soldering (or hot-swappable installation), PCB functional pre-testing, precise keycap assembly, screw fastening, interface soldering, casing assembly, full functional inspection, and appearance refinement. Each process has clear operating standards and inspection points. For instance, switch soldering requires the use of automatic soldering machines set at a temperature of 260±10℃, with soldering time strictly controlled between 3-5 seconds to avoid cold solder joints and bridging; hot-swappable switch installation must ensure full contact between switches and PCB contacts with uniform insertion and extraction force; the screw fastening process must use torque-controlled electric screwdrivers preset to 0.8-1.2N·m to prevent loose screws and casing damage. Meanwhile, IPQC (In-Process Quality Control) inspectors are assigned to the production line, conducting spot checks on each process every 2 hours to verify product quality and operational compliance. If any abnormalities are detected (such as welding deviations or misaligned keycaps), the process is immediately halted to identify the cause, ensuring problems are resolved at an early stage.

Product inspection and testing serve as the "final firewall" for quality. HengCang Technology has established a comprehensive inspection and testing system covering "full items, multiple dimensions, and high standards." Tailored testing plans are developed for different types of keyboards (mechanical keyboards, POS keyboards, gaming keyboards, etc.), and 100% full inspection or spot inspection is performed for each production batch (100% full inspection for key customer orders, and spot inspection in accordance with AQL 2.5 standards for regular orders). The testing content is far more detailed than surface inspections: full-key anti-ghosting testing verifies support for simultaneous pressing of 6 keys/10 keys/full keys (depending on product positioning) to ensure no key conflicts; key function testing checks the sensitivity of each key individually, ensuring no lag or malfunction; LED backlight testing (if applicable) inspects brightness uniformity, color consistency, and smooth mode switching; wireless connection stability testing (for Bluetooth/2.4G models) continuously tests signal strength within a 10-meter range to ensure no disconnection or delay; durability testing simulates more than 50 million key presses through professional equipment to ensure stable performance after long-term use; in addition, there is a detailed appearance inspection to check for casing scratches, keycap defects, and uneven gaps (≤0.2mm). All test data is recorded and archived in real time, and unqualified products are isolated in a dedicated defective product area. Quality engineers analyze the causes of non-conformity and determine whether to rework or scrap the products in accordance with established procedures—never allowing any flawed keyboard to enter the market.

Finally, the key to quality control lies in "sustainability": a closed-loop mechanism for continuous improvement. Quality is not static, but a process of constant optimization through market feedback and technological upgrades. HengCang Technology has specially established a production quality team consisting of more than 10 senior engineers, whose core responsibility is to build and continuously optimize this quality control system. The team collects and analyzes defective product data from the production line daily (classified by soldering defects, functional failures, appearance flaws, etc.), summarizes customer after-sales feedback monthly (such as key malfunctions, connection disconnections, backlight failures, etc.), and holds quarterly supplier quality review meetings. For frequently occurring issues, an 8D report analysis model is initiated to trace the root causes from five dimensions—people, machines, materials, methods, and environment—and promote process upgrades, design optimizations, or management improvements. For example, based on after-sales feedback, the team once discovered that a certain wireless keyboard model had unstable connectivity in low-temperature environments. The quality team collaborated with the R&D department to conduct repeated tests, ultimately resolving the issue by optimizing the power supply design of the wireless module and adjusting the firmware program.
